Built-in HD Radio Tuner
HD radio technology allows CD-quality digital broadcasting of your local AM and FM radio stations. HD radio broadcasts can include multiple channels on the same frequency, which is called multicasting. With multicasting, you can receive up to three additional multicast channels: HD2, HD3, HD4. With your HD5112 radio, you will receive HD radio digital broadcasts automatically when tuned to a station that offers HD radio technology. Learn more about HD radio in our handy guide on the topic.

With a subscription to XM or Sirius satellite radio, you'll enjoy access to a ton of music, news, talk shows, sports, and traffic information with CD-quality sound throughout the United States.

Of course, there's standard radio as well. Pull up one of your favorites instantly with six FM and six AM presets.

Connect your iPod using the jLink cable, sold separately. Click to enlarge.

Supports MP3/WMA Files via CD-R/RW, SD card, or USB
The HD5112 can play MP3/WMA directly from files contained on a CD-R/RW, SD card, or USB device using the buttons on the receiver. Burn a disc or just quickly drag some files to a USB jump drive or SD card, and head out the door with your latest faves.

Installing a USB device is simple--insert your USB thumb drive into the USB slot on the front of the radio, and the unit will automatically search for MP3 and WMA files on the device and begin playback. Same goes for insertion of an SD card under the front panel.

Made for iPod
This unit is equipped with an iPod-ready function that will allow you to control your iPod (if compatible) using the front panel control buttons. Just hook up your iPod with the included jLink iPod cable and take your iTunes library on the road. The following iPod versions are supported:

  • iPod mini
  • iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G

I LOVE MY CAR AGAIN!

I can't afford to buy another car right now. The stereo I had in my car was on it's last leg. So I took a chance (despite some of the reviews here) and bought the Jensen HD5112 and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT(so far)! This thing played my MP3/MP4 player via the Aux in jack which has all sorts of MP3's (with variable bit rates). It also easily played my 2 Gig SD card, as well as MP3's off of one of my CD's as well as other CDs in wav format. It also works very well with my 4 gig USB Data Rambo Stick. The radio stations come in fantastic on this too! (I live in Portland, Oregon)

At the time I bought this it was at $47 bucks with free shipping. IT IS THE BEST 47 bucks I've ever paid towards a stereo for my car. Worth every penny! AND I love my car again! Now I won't mind if I am stuck in traffic since I can listen to this really great stereo!
Great Feature Package for the Price $$

When considering features for dollar, it seemed like a great deal. HD radio sounds great on my favorite FM channels. Using a high quality 2 GB SD card, unit worked without issues. My 30GB Ipod charged and controlled through the supplied cable. All in all, a strong feature set and good value.
Quality Stereo packed with features

I was looking for a stereo that had USB or SD support and an AUX input on the front. I shopped around a lot of sites and luckily came across this unit. I was initially worried about the power output, but this system puts out plenty of power for my car speaker system and good sound quality. I've only had it for a week or so, but I've tried most of the features. I've pulled in over 16 extra HD stations from just the generic FM band, make sure you read the book on how to switch HD channels. HD channel availability will of course vary by city location and offerings. I've tried the SD card, and it plays my MP3 files with no problem. I can't get it to play my WMA files on the SD card. I will need to research further or only use MP3 formated files. It reads the tag information off of my MP3 files so I can see what is playing. I haven't figured out how to catalog or jump to just the songs I want. Not sure if this unit will support that. The CD player plays both my WMAs and MP3s with no problem and displays the tag information. All around this unit has exceeded my expectations, with limited downsides like the problems with not reading some WMA file formats on the SD card. It comes with IPOD cables, Aux cable, and pre-amp outputs for those that want to connect to an AMP. Also, make sure you remove the two small screws on the top with red tags. If you forget, you won't be able to insert a CD into the CD player, since these appear to stabilize the head while in shipment. I tested out my unit before I assembled it into the dash permanently. Also buy your car's corresponding radio connectors to make it easy to install to your current system. Notice: If you have a car with Onstar, you will be required to order an additional control module between it and the car stereo to handle some of the features the stock stereo did for Onstar. I don't equate the sound quality to Alpine or a high end Kenwood, but I would say it matched many of the JVC and other systems that I tested out at the brick and mortar stores.
Sweet deal

This is the unit to get if versatility and price are your main concerns. I have not seen another car receiver at any price that has an hd radio, cd player, memory card reader, usb interface, front panel audio input, and an included ipod control system and cable. The sound from the unit is good, although at earsplitting volume the sound does start to break up. The unit I purchased did not have any of the problems playing cd's that I have read about in other reviews. The memory card reader is great - much better than a cd changer. You can get around 500 songs on a 2gb card, and they are easy to access. Just remember that 2gb is the largest SD card that the unit will accept. The regular FM radio reception is acceptable, and the HD radio is fantastic. Not only do you get CD quality sound from the radio if a station is broadcasting in HD, many HD stations have additional programming on subchannels that can be accessed with the push of a button.
Fit and finish is good, but not great. The HD5112 is visually pleasing, but it's controls lack the tactile sophistication of higher-end units.
In conclusion, Jensen has hit a home run with this one. If you are looking for a car stereo that will allow you to play digital music from just about any source, and allow you to store hundreds of songs in the unit itself (via an HD card), this is the radio for you. If you are looking for a true high end audiophile experience (and most people are not), look elsewhere. You should be able to buy this unit for at most $125 with shipping. I have owned many aftermarket car stereos, and I would say that this one would be a bargain at twice that price.
